BAHIA BLANCA, Argentina — Fray Carlos Azpiroz Costa, O.P., former Master of the Order of Preachers, has become the Archbishop of Bahia Blanca in Argentina. He has served as Master of the Order from 2001 to 2010, and was succeeded by Fray Bruno Cadore, O.P.
In 2015, Pope Francis appointed Fray Carlos Azpiroz Costa as coadjutor Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bahia Blanca, and was in the same year ordained bishop by the most reverend Guillermo Jose Garlatti, his Archbishop.
On 29 June 2017, in an ordination rite attended by fellow bishops, priests, and the lay faithful, Archbishop Garlatti handed the crosier (archbishop's staff) to Fray Carlos Azpiroz, "a gesture that visualized, before the people of God, the inauguration of a new archbishop." [1]
The entire Dominican Family in the Philippines sends its warmest congratulations to our former Master of the Order!
