Directory of Chapters & Groups
The fraternities/chapters/chapters-in-formation can be considered as the smallest unit in the hierarchy of the Dominican Laity. It is the community to which a Lay Dominican belongs. He/she treats his/her fellow members as brothers and sisters. The fraternity is the primary venue where the member lives out the spirit of Community, one of the four (4) pillars of Dominican Life. "The fraternity is the special source through which the commitment of each one is nourished and sustained in his/her vocation" (No. 15, Part III of The Rule). Thus, the Directory & By-Laws mandate that each fraternity should meet at least once a month (Part III, 7.3, c).
Every Lay Dominican belongs to a particular fraternity at all times, except when he/she becomes a Private Lay Dominican, as in situations contemplated by the Directory & By-Laws.
